who we are

Oh, hi! We’re Brian and Laura, and this is our son, Shaun.

Everyone has a story, and this is ours.

Laura

You know when they ask you what you want to be when you grow up? Well, I said, “I wanna open my very own boba shop!” Just kidding. But I did end up working at one after college. In 2004, at the very beginning of when boba was starting to make its US debut, I got my start at Tapioca Express in San Diego. Over 10 years later, at a career crossroads, I still looked back at that time as the best job I’ve ever had.

We had just moved to Menifee, but we still frequented all the latest and greatest that San Diego’s Convoy street had to offer. One day, we walked into a new dessert shop that was doing Taiwanese shaved snow.

Laura

It was the coolest thing ever! The texture was unlike anything we’ve ever had, but it was the experience that we couldn’t get out of our heads, even days later. Seeing these giant, colorful blocks being shaved into ribbons right in front of you, then being able to choose any toppings you wanted?

Brian

We thought, why not open our own here in Menifee? There was nothing like it out here.

Laura

So we spent over a year putting together a business plan, searching for the perfect location.. It wasn’t easy, and it was exactly like a movie - right when we were at our lowest point, about to give up, we finally found a home for monsta snow in Murrieta and opened in December 2017.

We were lucky that as soon as we opened our doors, the community SHOWED UP. We were overwhelmed (in a good way) and it forced us to rise to the challenge and pressures of continuing to meet those expectations.

The entire first year (and most of the second year, to be honest) was a huge learning experience. Slowly, we learned what worked and what didn’t, and found our voice and identity. It allowed me the freedom to create new drinks and desserts, and get immediate feedback from our customers. Monsta snow is what it is today because of our team members and our community.

Brian

It means so much to us to see people coming back day after day. We started this shop with the intention of being able to provide a place for people to meet and spend time together over some boba or shaved snow, but to see that vision actually come to life is very humbling.

Laura

Definitely surreal, in the best way. Thank you to everyone for supporting us, and following our journey. We can’t wait to share more with you! And if you haven’t been in yet, then what are you waiting for? Come join the monsta fam! ;)
